Good grooming gifts for men are the ones that fit into a routine he already has, or make starting one easy. Match the gift to his face first: beard care for a beard, shaving kit for a clean-shaven man, a styler for the one who does his hair, a simple cleanser and moisturiser for a skincare beginner. Choose a scent he would wear, and keep receipts.
In short
- Buy for his routine, not for the routine you wish he had. Something he uses daily beats something that sits in a drawer.
- Under £15 covers a solid stocking filler; £15–£30 buys a proper upgrade; £30 and over gets you a gift set or a fragrance.
- Scent is personal. If you are unsure, go for something lightly scented or let him choose the fragrance.
- Sensitive skin is common. Fragrance is a known trigger for some people, so be cautious with heavily perfumed products.
- Our gift sets are £35 in a foiled box. Add one more item and you pass the £50 threshold for free UK delivery.
What makes a good grooming gift for men?
A good grooming gift is something he will reach for without thinking. Most unloved gift sets fail here: they are built for a shop display, not a bathroom shelf. Five miniature products he has no use for are worth less than one full-size product he finishes.
Three questions narrow it down quickly.
- What is on his face? A full beard, stubble, or nothing at all. This decides more than anything else.
- What does he already use? Look in the bathroom if you can. If he already owns a beard oil, a beard shampoo or a styler is a better next step than a second oil.
- How does he feel about scent? Some men wear fragrance every day; others avoid anything perfumed. This matters for every category, not just cologne.

The bearded one
A beard needs three things: cleaning, conditioning and, if it is long enough, a little shaping. Most men only do the first, often with whatever shampoo is in the shower.
A dedicated beard shampoo is the easy, inexpensive win. Ours is a beard wash with argan oil and other natural oils, made to clean without stripping. Beard oil is the classic beard gift for good reason: our Beard Oil pairs hemp oil, which moisturises the skin under the beard where dryness and itch tend to start, with jojoba oil to soften the hair. For fuller beards, Beard Wax (cocoa butter and jojoba) gives a soft hold that sits between a balm and a wax.
One honest note: beard oil does not make a beard grow. It keeps the hair softer and the skin underneath more comfortable, which is plenty. If he is new to it, our guide on how to use beard oil is worth sending along with the bottle.
The clean-shaven one
Shaving gifts work because the daily shave is often rushed. The American Academy of Dermatology’s advice on how to shave is simple: wet the skin and hair first, use a shaving cream or gel, and shave in the direction the hair grows. Good products make that routine more pleasant.
Our Shaving Cream gives a smooth, creamy lather and is designed with sensitive skin in mind. A pre-shave oil such as our Shave Oil softens whiskers and helps the razor glide. To finish, the Post Shave Balm is alcohol-free, soothes and hydrates, and leaves no shine. Buy all three and you have a complete shave kit for under £45.
The one who styles his hair
If he styles his hair, he has a favourite finish. Your job is to match it, not change it.
- Matte, strong hold: Super Dry Clay (extra-strong, matte, pliable) or Dry Matte Clay (strong, natural matte).
- Texture with a little shine: Fibre Gum (medium hold, elastic, good for separation).
- Defined and restylable: Defining Cream (strong hold with definition).
- Volume and an undone look: Sea Salt Spray, which also helps fine hair look thicker.
Each styler has its own scent, from strawberry to lavender and vanilla, so a 50ml tin at £8 is a low-risk way to let him try something new. If you cannot work out what he uses, a Sea Salt Spray is the most forgiving choice.
The one who has never used skincare
Keep it to two products. The American Academy of Dermatology’s skin care tips for men start with a mild facial cleanser and lukewarm water, then a daily moisturiser, plus sunscreen before going outdoors.
A cleanser and a moisturiser is a routine anyone can stick to. Our Facial Cleanser (organic aloe vera, eucalyptus, pomegranate extract) suits all skin types, and the Hydrating Facial Cream is a lightweight daily moisturiser that goes on last. Resist adding a mask, serum and eye gel all at once: a seven-step routine for a beginner rarely survives.
The fragrance man
Fragrance is the riskiest gift on this list and the most rewarding when it lands. If he already has a signature scent, do not try to replace it. If he does not, choose by character rather than by bottle.
Our two colognes are Century (blackcurrant, apple and bergamot over jasmine, oakmoss and a vanilla base: fruity and warm) and Willow (black truffle, ylang, bergamot and blackcurrant: earthy and refined). Crusade Eau de Parfum is bolder and made for evenings; Vanille has a subtle sweetness. You can see all four in our fragrance collection, and our guide to choosing a signature scent explains how to narrow it down.
The man who has everything
The man who has everything rarely has everything in this category, because grooming products get used up. That is the point. A consumable gift does not add clutter.
Good options are the things people rarely buy for themselves: a Moustache Wax with real beeswax for the man with a moustache he is quietly proud of, a Charcoal Face Mask for a once-or-twice-a-week ritual, or a gift set paired with the cologne in the same scent so everything matches.
Are men’s gift sets worth it?
A gift set is worth it when every item in it gets used. That is the test, and it is why we built ours around a full routine rather than a sampler.
Both of our gift sets are £35 and come in a foiled gift box:
| The Century Gift Set | The Willow Gift Set | |
|---|---|---|
| Styler | Super Dry Clay | Dry Matte Clay |
| Beard care | Beard Oil, Beard Moisturiser, Beard Shampoo | Beard Oil, Beard Moisturiser, Beard Shampoo |
| Scent | Century: fruity, warm, vanilla base | Willow: earthy, refined, fresh top |
The Century Gift Set suits a man who likes warmer, sweeter scents and a very strong matte hold. Willow suits someone who prefers something earthier with a natural matte finish. Both make a complete beard care kit, so they suit a man with at least some facial hair. Browse both in gift sets.
What to avoid when buying grooming gifts
A few common mistakes, and how to sidestep them.
- Heavily scented products for sensitive skin. DermNet notes that fragrance allergy is one of the most common causes of allergic contact dermatitis, and that fragrance turns up in shampoos and deodorants as well as perfume. If he has reacted to products before, choose carefully and suggest he patch tests anything new.
- Gifts that imply a problem. A face mask is a treat. A “fix your skin” bundle is a comment. Frame it as something to enjoy.
- Duplicate products. If he already has a beard oil he likes, buy the shampoo or moisturiser that sits next to it.
- Too many steps. One or two products he will actually use beat a box of six he will not.
If any product causes irritation that does not settle, he should stop using it. The NHS advises speaking to a pharmacist and seeing a GP for persistent or severe contact dermatitis.

Frequently asked questions
What is a good grooming gift for a man who has everything?
Something consumable. Grooming products get used up, so they do not add clutter. A beard care kit, a quality shave set or a cologne in a scent he does not already own all work well. Pair a gift set with a cologne in the same scent for something that feels considered.
What should be in a beard care kit?
At minimum, a beard shampoo to clean and a beard oil or leave-in conditioner to soften the hair and keep the skin underneath comfortable. A beard wax or balm is useful for longer beards that need shaping. Our gift sets include beard shampoo, beard oil and beard moisturiser, plus a hair styler.
How do I choose a fragrance for someone else?
Think about what he already wears or likes the smell of. Fresh and citrus scents are the easiest crowd-pleasers, while warmer, sweeter or earthier scents are more personal. If you have no idea, a lightly scented grooming product is a safer choice than a full bottle of cologne.
Are grooming gift sets good value?
They are when every item gets used. Check that the contents match his routine: a beard care set is excellent for a bearded man and wasted on someone who shaves daily. Full-size products are generally better value than sets of miniatures.
Can I return a grooming gift if it is the wrong scent?
Unopened items can be returned. Check our FAQs for the details before you order, and keep the gift sealed until you are sure.
